Lutine Broker News – 5th October 2006
Lutine Assurance Services is pleased to announce the launch of its Long Term Pension Term Assurance contracts (over 10 years to 25 years) on 09/10/2006.
The two contracts are:-
Level Pension Term Assurance and Mortgage Decreasing Pension Term Assurance
Lutine Assurance will be entering the Pension Term Assurance Market with effect from 9th October 2006. In a first move for the Life Protection Company, they will be offering indemnity commission at 170% of the first year’s premium on this product whilst still maintaining a competitive premium.
Lutine Assurance is probably best known for its flexible approach to unusual, technically complex or high sum assured cases. Lutine’s Pension Term Assurance product will see a move away from this area to more straight through processing with premium terms that reflect this process.
The product will be geared to an easy application process and therefore will be restricted to a maximum sum assured of £300,000 any one life and a maximum age at entry of 50 attained to keep medical evidence and financial requirements to a minimum.
Important message from Martin Herrick, Underwriting Manager at Lutine Assurance
Lutine has long been renowned for its approachable, flexible stance on underwriting issues. However this was on products where we were unable to finance indemnity commission and were not always able to provide top quartile rates.
Our Pension Term Assurance products have been designed to provide competitive indemnity commission terms and competitive rates. This means that we have to manage our costs quite aggressively.
As such the underwriting approach we will be taking on our Pension Term Assurance product will be much more ‘clinical’. We are aware that there is nothing worse for brokers than taking time to ‘sign up’ clients only to have insurers decline cases or spend endless amounts of time requesting medical evidence.
At Lutine we have always believed in being up front with our brokers and our clients and where possible to manage everyone’s expectations of what the likely outcome will be at as early a stage as possible.
This leaflet is therefore designed to let you know that if your client has suffered from any of the following conditions it is probably not worthwhile completing our Pension Term Assurance proposal.
Below are the lists of conditions:-
Cancer including Leukaemia Hodgkin’s disease, lymphoma, brain or spinal tumour
Heart attack, angina, heart defects from birth and heart surgery
Stroke, circulatory problems, brain haemorrhage or permanent brain injury
Multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, paralysis, Alzheimer's disease, dementia or cerebral palsy
Mental Illness that has required hospital treatment or referral to a psychiatrist or ever involved self harm or suicide attempts
Hepatitis B and C, Ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease
Clearly we still cannot say that every proposal we receive will be acceptable but hopefully we have given a good indication of cases where it may not be in the interests of yourselves or the life assured to complete the proposal form.
We would stress that on our non Pension Term Assurance products you will still receive the same ‘hands on underwriting approach’ for which Lutine is renowned.
One last plea to all brokers who want to use our services, please ensure any proposals submitted are fully answered and completed with full details where applicable. This avoids us having to request information that could be obtained when completing the proposal, thereby wasting our time, your time and the client’s time.
Thank you.
Martin Herrick,
Chief Underwriter.
Managing Director of Lutine, Jon Clarke comments:-
“This is not only a competitive product for consumers with our keen pricing and the tax relief on premiums but is also our first product to include indemnity commission to IFA’s.”
Shaun Murphy, Sales & Marketing Manager comments:-
“We have been asked for sometime, by a large part of the IFA community, when we would be able to offer indemnity commission. Well... the answer is ‘now’, on this product.”
Underwriting Manager, Martin Herrick comments:-
“We have been known for our ability to help with complex cases. We now want to show that brokers have a simple Pension Term Assurance product, where contact with the underwriters is more limited, but provides a quick ‘no nonsense’ underwriting approach. We will still look to provide our ‘hold the hand’ approach on our other products but this product has rates and a process designed to give IFA’s what they have been telling us they want. That is good rates, with indemnity commission and a quick response time.”

Mortgage Payment Protection
21st June 2005
Competition in the mortgage payment protection (MPP) market intensi-fies as of June 2005 with the launch of a new stand-alone policy from Lutine. Offered for new mortgages, existing mortgages and re-mortgages, the policy provides cover against accident, sickness and unemployment.
"With two-thirds of mortgagors uninsured, there is certainly scope and a need for further sales of this type of product," commented Jon Clarke, Managing Director, Lutine. "With the reduced levels of government support available to mortgagors it is important that this cover is carefully considered. The emphasis now is on individuals to take more responsibil-ity for their financial wellbeing."
Shaun Murphy, Sales & Marketing Manage comments, "Our premiums are now very reasonable at £3.99 per £100 monthly benefit including IPT and brokers earn 20% commission on all premiums collected, excluding the IPT element of the premium."
Cassidy Davis Insurance Group underwrites the policy. They are underwriters at Lloyd's of London.

Lutine Assurance Services are pleased to announce that we have been acquired by Jubilee Managing Agency Limited, following exclusive negotiations with St. Paul Travelers Syndicate Management Limited.
In addition, the Jubilee Group has secured the Cassidy Davis business from St Paul Travelers. Cassidy Davis is a specialist personal lines provider with whom Lutine Assurance Services has had a long and rewarding relationship.
Our Managing Director Jon Clarke comments: -
"Jubilee Managing Agencies Limited is a relatively new, but progressive and innovative managing agency in the Lloyd’s community. This fits in well with the Lutine business ethos.
As part of the Jubilee Group, Lutine Assurance Services can expect continued profitable growth in our specialist market, and we can also look forward to further development in new areas within the financial services arena."
Martin Herrick, Chief Underwriter comments: -
“This is certainly good news for Lutine. With the support and commitment that Jubilee Managing Agencies Limited have already shown at such an early stage in our relationship I am looking forward to working with them. With their flexibility and commitment behind us I will look to build on the reputation Lutine already has for service, flexibility and approachability. This will undoubtedly be of use to our clients and the IFA community in the current market. IFA’s have already “voted with their feet” with our Financial Adviser award last year, and we look to improve upon this again this year.”
Shaun Murphy, Sales and Marketing Manager comments: -
“Undoubtedly this is an exciting development in the history of Lutine. We are already known to be one of the most speedy and efficient providers of life cover to IFA’s, and now as part of this progressive group, our market penetration should progress even further. The Jubilee and Lutine Management Teams are already working well together, which is an extremely positive sign for things that will happen to the business as a whole in the future. I am sure that under Jubilee’s umbrella that Lutine will enjoy continued success, growth and profitability.”

July 2004
The team at Lutine Assurance Services is delighted to have been awarded a prestigious Gold Award at this year Financial Advisor Life and Pensions Awards. Voting began in February when questionniares were sent out to Financial Adviser's IFA readers who were invited to grade companies in relelvant areas including: product innovation, performance, sales & marketing, broker support, rate competitiveness, capital protection and charges. Mortgage Payment Protection
Competition in the mortgage payment protection (mpp) market intensified last month with the launch of a new stand alone policy from Lutine. Available for both new mortgages and re-mortgages , the policy provides cover against accident, sickness and unemployment.
"With two-thirds of mortgagees uninsured, the MPP market offers good growth potential, " commented Jon Clarke, managing director, Lutine. "A number of factors are important. We have a high level of mortgage debt in this country, the economy is turbulent, and the government has reduced the amount of state support available. The onus is, therefore, on individuals to take more responsibility for their financial well-being."
Premiums begin from £4.40 per £100 benefit for new mortgages, and £5.50 per £100 benefit for re-mortgages. The policy is underwritten by Cassidy Davis Insurance Group, underwriters at Lloyd's of London.

Lutine Assurance
Life Cover when you need it !?
Lutine Assurance is by now well known to you as the "front" for several Syndicates in the Lloyd's market, it is based in Birmingham and has been issuing Lloyd's policies since 1989.
The most well known part of our product range is undoubtedly Stopgap - a short term instant cover facility ideal for proposal delay situations, business trips quick mortgage cover and so on. This is a true instant cover facility; unlike what is on offer from some life companies.
Less well known is the fact that Lutine is an active player in the Group Life Market, in particular in the niche of small existing schemes where you are looking to rebroke the life cover.
With our Lloyd's connections we are used to unusual risks but a recent case submitted to us by an Associate Member of a network was unique. We were asked to cover the Thrust SSC team (with the exception of the driver) out in the USA for a month whilst they attempted to break the land speed record and we were happy to do so. The attempt did take longer than initially expected and so the cover was extended for a further month at which point the team was running out of money!
Having been approached by Richard Noble via e-mail for another 21 days of cover we agreed to do this for free, so doing our bit to help break the record.
We are proud to have been associated, in a small way, with helping in this remarkable achievement which also demonstrated our own unique flexibility and speed.
We currently have data input and filing clerk vacancies in our Birmingham,UK office. If you wish to be considered for either post please email a current CV to enquiries@lutine.com |
